Since last year, Google has been continually updating its iPhone and iPad apps with homescreen widgets. Google Maps is now the latest with version 5.74 seeing a pair of useful iOS widgets. The first is a standard search widget called “Find places nearby.” Google has used the same layout for the Search app and Chrome. It starts with a pill-shaped search field that directly opens the app and keyboard. Meanwhile, there are shortcuts for “Home” and “Work” addresses to quickly get directions....

Google has today released an update to is iOS Maps app that brings iPhone X support. Arriving almost a month after the iPhone X arrived in customers hands, the popular Google Maps app has been updated to take advantage of the device’s new 5.8-inch display and gives users a much more pleasant experience. Apple says it is planning to preserve the panoramic George Floyd mural surrounding Apple Pioneer Place in Portland, Oregon. The artwork, which has become emblematic of Black Lives Matter activism in 2020, will be donated at a later date. Apple Pioneer Place reopened on May 27 after COVID-19 shutdowns that began in March. Google is rolling out a completely redesigned version of its iPhone and iPad app with its Material Design look and feel right down to the app icon. The latest version of the search app now presents a bottom navigation bar (which can slide out of view) that presents a persistent Google button for searching for new information.
