Google officially announced the Maps for Android dark mode in February and widely rolled it out a month later. The Google Maps dark theme is now officially set to arrive on iPhone and iPad in the coming weeks. This darker look is pitched as giving “your eyes a break” from the blindingly light Maps interface, especially at night. The search field, carousel of place/category suggestions, and bottom bar, as well as other buttons, switch to light gray....

The iOS Google Maps app has long shown you Uber fares and pickup times when you search for a destination, provided that you have the Uber app installed. Google has integrated five more services into its mapping app. Most of these are for countries outside the USA – though NYC dwellers can also use Gett. If you have a provider’s app installed and tap on the ride service tab, you’ll be able to see fare estimates and pick up times if a car is available near you....

The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil, who plays Tahani Al-Jamil in the comedy series, was misnamed during the Golden Globes red carpet. While errors during live broadcasts every now and then are acceptable, what makes it more intriguing is the fact that she’s dubbed “Kamilah Al-Jamil,” her character’s obnoxious sister from the series played by Rebecca Hazlewood. Outside of The Good Place community, Jamil is making a name for herself along her co-stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, who are both household names thanks to their respective long careers....

According to Google Project Zero’s zero-day tracker, there were 25 browser zero-days patched last year, of which 14 were for Chrome, six were for Safari’s WebKit engine, and four were for Internet Explorer. In 2020, there were just 14 browser zero-day flaws, of which more than half were in Chrome. But between 2015 and 2018 there were no Chrome zero-day exploits in the wild, according to the tracker data. Adrian Taylor, a technical program manager on the Chrome Security Team, says in a blogpost that the increase in browser zero-days “may initially seem concerning” and “could point to a worrying trend”....

The company is today adding the ability to create lists of places you want to visit, and to share them with friends … As the demo video below shows, you just tap on the place name and then the Save icon. From there, you can save it to either a preset list like Favorites or Want To Go, or create your own list – such as a hitlist of places to visit during a vacation....

While some international carriers have rolled out dual SIM support for the iPhone XS and XR, the major US wireless carriers have pushed back official support until “later this year.” However, GigSky has today updated its iOS app which brings support for eSIM on iPhone XS and XR to its North American and worldwide mobile data plans. Coming with iOS 12.1, Apple flipped the switch on dual SIM support, but the feature is still carrier dependent....

The God of War series has taken Kratos from Ancient Greece to Scandinavia - and believe it or not, his journey is glimpsed in a completely unrelated video game. It’s a theory posed by several fans who first noted some similarities between a surprise boss battle in the 2D sidescroller Shovel Knight, and the setting of the most recent God of War video game. Similarities that can now be locked into stone as a direct connection, courtesy of God of War director Cory Barlog....

Good Boys, produced by Seth Rogen’s company and full of his signature improvisation techniques, is sure to make a lot of young actors into household names when it premieres on August 16th. The report suggests that Google is going make the upcoming service separate from Google+. Users will also be able to easily share images to Facebook and Twitter, which means Google is taking a different approach, probably realizing that its own Google Plus network simply can’t compete with Facebook. I tend to believe that there will be more users interested in a dedicated Google photo storage service instead of being basically forced to store their photos in G+....
