It’s standard practice for developers to pause app updates over the December holidays and resume in early January. That was the case for Google this year, but the lack of new iOS releases oddly continued for almost the entire month until app updates resumed yesterday and today. The lack of updates comes in the context of speculation at the start of the year that Google was not updating its iOS apps to avoid Apple’s App Privacy label....

Google-owned VirusTotal today released a version of the VirusTotal uploader application (via The Next Web) compatible with Mac OS X. Previously the software was only available for Windows-based machines. VirusTotal Uploader works in conjunction with the VirusTotal web service to check files and links for malware. George Lucas has opened up (very slightly) about his plans for a Star Wars sequel trilogy, and it contained creatures that fed on The Force. When Disney acquired Lucasfilm, George Lucas stepped away entirely from the franchise. The Star Wars creator will occasionally chime in about bits of Jedi lore, but otherwise he’s completely hands off when it comes to the sequel trilogy and Star Wars’ new spin-offs. Google parent company Alphabet has once again surpassed Apple in terms of value based on market capitalization. CNBC points out that Alphabet (GOOG) saw its market cap around $498.56 billion during trading today, while Apple (AAPL) saw its market cap down around $496.69 billion. Apple is often prided with the title of most valuable company in the world, but its stock has taken a hit over the last few weeks after reporting its first ever year-over-year decline in iPhone sales....

Google announced this week that Drive now fully integrates with Apple’s new Files app on iOS 11. Files allows you to access documents and media from multiple cloud providers including iCloud Drive and Dropbox in a single interface. iOS 11 Files integration comes with the latest update to Google Drive for iPhone and iPad, version 4.2017.37510. After installing the latest version of Google Drive on an iPhone or iPad running iOS 11, look for the ‘More Locations’ section of the Files app which should have a red badge that signals a new provider is available....

Google today is rolling out an update to its Google Maps app on iOS that further integrates the app throughout the operating system. Writer-director Jordan Peele expressed confusion when his directorial debut, the critically acclaimed social thriller Get Out, was nominated in the “Musical or Comedy” categories at the 75th Golden Globes.
