Today Google Announced they have expanded Google Maps to include Live Traffic Conditions for Arterial roads. Previously Google Maps only displayed traffic conditions for Major Highways (freeways), so this is a nice addition. Most of the time I need to know which back road I should take when the highway is busy! The new feature is automatically enabled once you turn on the Traffic Layer in Google Maps for both Mobile Google Maps (iPhone, Android, etc....

In recent weeks, Google has been testing and slowly rolling out a number of new features for Messages on Android. The company announced today that iMessage reactions, Google Photos integration, and several other capabilities will soon widely launch. On iOS, users can respond to a text with one of six Tapbacks. Historically, that action was communicated to Android phones over SMS/MMS as an annoying quoted message. The Messages by Google app will now translate that response into an actual message and display it in the bottom-right corner of the text you sent....

In late January, Google announced a big redesign of Gmail for Android and iOS that takes advantage of its updated design language, and brings features first introduced with the web revamp last year. The Google Material Theme is now rolling out to Gmail for iOS. The new Gmail for iOS gets rid of the previous bright red color that themed the app bar and other parts of the interface. This stark white color starts at the top of the app where there is now a full-width search field....

At an event yesterday, a Goldman Sachs executive explained why the bank isn’t worried about the profitability of Apple Card, despite other banks reportedly backing out of the deal over such concerns. Today, Goldman CEO David Solomon confirmed that Goldman employees and Apple employees are testing Apple Card ahead of its summer launch. Speaking at the Recode Code Conference today, Solomon said that he and other Goldman employees are testing Apple Card right now....

Google Drive has received an upgrade today that adds an extra layer of security to your files stored with the service via Face ID or Touch ID on iPhone and iPad. Spotted by The Verge, the support for Apple’s secure and convenient Face ID and Touch ID showed up in the latest Google Drive for iOS release notes. However, the feature has been slowly rolling out to users since April (via Digital Trends), so the acknowledgment in today’s update likely means all users should now see the change....

Update: The Google Assistant for iPhone is now available on the US App Store. As previously rumored, Google today announced during its I/O developer conference that its Assistant platform is coming to iOS. The virtual assistant will arrive soon as a standalone app for iPhone, initially for users in the US. Previously the Siri competitor was only available through its Allo messaging app and for Android and Google Home devices....

The Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (aka. GLOW) are back this summer, and Netflix shared a first look at what they’re up to in season 3 in addition to the premiere date. The first two seasons of the ’80s-set comedy followed estranged friends Debbie Eagan and Ruth Wilder as they began making the show-within-a-show, GLOW. The show also features Sam, an unsuccessful movie director, and Bash, the show’s producer and announcer. OpenSSF launched the Scorecards in November 2020, creating an automated security tool that produces a “risk score” for open source projects and helps reduce the toil and manual effort required to continually evaluate changing packages when maintaining a project’s supply chain. Since Google and OpenSSF’s July 2021 announcement of Scorecards V2, the Scorecards project has grown steadily to over 40 unique contributors and 18 implemented security checks.
