The Good Place actress Jameela Jamil, who plays Tahani Al-Jamil in the comedy series, was misnamed during the Golden Globes red carpet. While errors during live broadcasts every now and then are acceptable, what makes it more intriguing is the fact that she’s dubbed “Kamilah Al-Jamil,” her character’s obnoxious sister from the series played by Rebecca Hazlewood.

Outside of The Good Place community, Jamil is making a name for herself along her co-stars Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, who are both household names thanks to their respective long careers. The British actress made her debut in 2009 as a  TV presenter on T4, but it wasn’t until she nabbed her regular gig in the critically-acclaimed NBC series in 2016 that she’s started to gain a following internationally. Despite her young career in Hollywood, Jamil has been making news for all the right reasons. For example, she’s been a vocal critic of other celebrities using fame to sell abnormal beauty standards. This time, however, a hilarious mistake gives her a new name - something that fans of The Good Place will find both funny and annoying.

Jamil took to her official Twitter account and posted a screen grab of herself during the red carpet of the Golden Globes. The footage lifted from E!’s broadcast of the event, however, named her “Kamilah Al-Jamil” - the name of Tahani’s competitive sister in The Good Place, who factored into her character’s death. Jamil doesn’t seem all that bothered by the error, calling it a “joyous mistake,” but knowing Tahani, the character would certainly have flipped out over the matter - even though the sisters do eventually make up.

Whether it was an honest mistake or a joke on E!’s part remains to be seen - but of all the names that they could have mistaken for Jamil, it’s amusing that they used her character’s sister’s name, who fans of the show know Tahani despises. There’s also a chance that the slip was an intentional joke, considering that E! is part of the NBC Universal umbrella. If that is the case, it’s actually a great way to cross-promote the comedy series as it gears up to return from its winter break this week.

Assuming it was a planned joke, it’s curious if the bit will somehow factor in any future episodes of The Good Place. Fans know that Kamilah is a well-known celebrity and is someone who could actually attend a high-profile event like the Golden Globes. That said, given that she looks different from Tahani, it’s interesting how this could all play up. Perhaps it’s all part of  Michael and Janet’s (D’arcy Carden) meddling with the lives of the show’s four lead characters. Fans will just have to wait and find out when the show continues the rest of season 3.
