The biggest stars from film and TV will once again converge in Beverly Hills to celebrate one of the biggest nights in Hollywood with the 77th Golden Globe Awards, and they’ll be streaming online. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association is set to hand out the prestigious awards for titles stemming from the 2019 calendar year. Here’s everything you need to know regarding the Golden Globes 2020 start time, as well as how to watch the big event.

For the fifth time in history, comedian Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes ceremony. Gervais is just one of a few figures that received the honorary gigs in the history of the Golden Globes. In fact, the ceremony didn’t institute regular hosting duties until 2010, which began Gervais’ three-year stint. Joining him on stage to present awards are a number of big names including Jennifer Aniston, Daniel Craig, Leonardo DiCaprio, Chris Evans, Helen Mirren, and Octavia Spencer, among many others.

After Bohemian Rhapsody, Green Book, The Americans, and The Kominsky Method took some of the biggest accolades at last year’s ceremony, the upcoming Golden Globes will see categories featuring titles like Marriage Story, Joker, Knives Out, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. On the TV side, heavy hitters like The Crown, Killing Eve, The Politician, and Fleabag will look to battle it out for the awards. Of course, an awards show can’t come without controversy as many are already calling out the HFPA for their lack of female director nominees.

Golden Globes 2020 Date & Start Time

Since 1973, the Golden Globes have stuck to a January date. The ceremony will follow suit with the last few years by holding the event on one of the first Sundays of the year. In this case, the 77th Golden Globe Awards takes place on January 5 and is set to begin at 8 pm EST / 5 pm PST. The Golden Globes will look to conclude within the three-hour window allotted for the event but it will likely run late by a few minutes.

Live red carpet coverage usually begins an hour before the official Golden Globes kicks off but that may not be the case for some viewers this year since the network will be airing the NFL Wild Card playoff matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles prior to the main event. It’s unclear what the network’s plans would be if the football game runs later than scheduled. For those looking for live coverage, E! will be airing pre-show starting at 6 pm EST and the HFPA plans to stream the red carpet on their official Facebook page at 6 pm EST.

How To Watch Golden Globes 2020 Online

The Golden Globes will air live on NBC once again since it’s produced by Dick Clark Productions. The network has had a contract to air the event since 1993 and that won’t change any time soon. The current contract with NBC playing host to the Golden Globes through 2027 and it’s possible that the network renews before that year grows near.

Anyone who isn’t capable of watching the Golden Globes 2020 on regular TV, there are options to stream the ceremony live on NBC’s website or the network’s app. Users will be required to enter their cable provider information to log on. There are also a few other streaming subscriptions that will allow viewers to catch the ceremony online. Fubo TV, Sling TV, Hulu, YouTube TV, and DirecTV (all of which have free trials) feature viewing options that could link subscribers so they don’t miss out on the festivities.
