A new toy from Godzilla: King of the Monsters suggests that the movie will include the “Burning Godzilla” form. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the sequel to Gareth Edwards’ 2014 Godzilla and will feature Godzilla going up against some of his iconic foes, such as Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.
While Godzilla: King of the Monsters is the first sequel of the new American series of Godzilla movies, the famous monster has gotten dozens of sequels over the years. The first Godzilla was released in 1954 in Japan by the company Toho. Since then, the character has gotten several makeovers in his many sequels, including a “Burning Godzilla” look. The “Burning Godzilla” look first appeared during the Heisei era in the 1995 film Godzilla vs. Destoroyah. Now, it appears that “Burning Godzilla” could be returning to the big screen based off of a new toy for Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
In a new tweet from Ian Cassidy (via: Comic Book), a toy showing Godzilla with reddish-orange spikes and reddish-orange paint on his body seems to hint that “Burning Godzilla” will appear in the movie. This version of Godzilla is included in a double pack along with Mothra in a toy line from Jakks Pacific. The full tweet, as well as the packaging for the toy, can be seen below:
While Godzilla will obviously be prominently featured in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, he won’t be the only Kaiju to grace the big screen. Rodan, Mothra, and Ghidorah have been teased since 2014, and the most recent trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters gave fans their best look yet at these characters. This trailer also hinted at two new Titans for the MonsterVerse - possibly Kumonga and Anguirus; the latter of which is actually one of director Michael Dougherty’s favorite Godzilla characters.
Fans will no doubt be excited to see some of the most popular Godzilla characters back up on the big screen, but fans are no doubt also excited to see a new form of Godzilla. In Godzilla vs. Destoroyah, “Burning Godzilla” came to be after it was discovered that Godzilla’s heart was going through a nuclear meltdown after he absorbed energy from a uranium deposit from a volcano eruption. This could certainly be the case in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, as trailers for the movie have already shown Rodan atop an erupting volcano. While all signs point to a “Burning Godzilla” appearing in the film, fans won’t know for sure until Godzilla: King of the Monsters hits theaters.
