A surprising connection between humans and Titans in the MonsterVerse has been revealed in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Apparently, humans are actually capable of communicating with Titans telepathically, something that wasn’t previously hinted at in Legendary’s movie franchise.

The credits of Godzilla: King of the Monsters is packed with Easter eggs, teases about the future of the MonsterVerse, details about the aftermath of Godzilla’s battle with King Ghidorah, and references to King Kong, Godzilla’s next opponent. Through newspaper articles and headlines, the credits explain that Godzilla is keeping a tight leash on his new minions while civilization recovers from the awakening of the 17 Titans. Monarch has gone public with its files on the Titans, and a new conflict is on the horizon for Monarch - and possibly the world - as several Titans are headed to Skull Island, King Kong’s home.

While the credits unloads tons of information about what’s happening in the MonsterVerse, there’s still more. When watching carefully, viewers may notice that the redacted text in the credits tells a long and detailed story about the relationship between ancient humans and Titans in the MonsterVerse. It’s no secret that humans worshiped Titans in the past, but it would seem that their connection goes much deeper than that. The text says that humans may have developed a method for telepathic communication with Titans, which means that they could speak to Titans through their minds. Some humans took this a step further and tried to control the Titans, which erupted into a war that mankind couldn’t win.

How did humans communicate telepathically with Titans? It’s stated elsewhere in the credits that there was once an “advanced civilization” in the MonsterVerse, which may or may not be the underwater city discovered in King of the Monsters. Just how “advanced” they actually were hasn’t been explored, but it could be that their technology gave them the tools they needed to speak with Titans. Alternatively, humans may have telepathically communicated with Titans through mystical means.

This isn’t the first time telepathy has played a role in a Godzilla movie. In the Godzilla films from the 1990s, there was a recurring character named Miki Saegusa (Megumi Odaka) who was a psychic with a deep telepathic connection to Godzilla. She was able to sense the thoughts and feelings of Godzilla, and for this reason she understood him better than anyone else. Since the MonsterVerse has now established that telepathic communication may indeed be possible, a similar plot device could be implemented in the future. What the MonsterVerse hasn’t revealed is if the method developed by the ancient humans can be repeated in the modern era.
