Gigi Gibelli and Damian Powers were scouted by Love Is Blind’s casting through their social media. The executives felt that they would be the perfect contestants.
Netflix released a dating reality show of their own called Love is Blind. The proposition of the show is for singles to try and find a significant other to fall in love with; the only catch is the singles must do this without ever laying eyes on one another. The singles are released into pods for 15 minutes to talk to one another. Viewers watched as the couples tried to form an emotional connection without the interruption of physical attraction. Netflix is veering from its usual layout and releasing the episodes in chunks instead of the first season at once.
Gigi shared her deepest emotions with Damian in the pods regarding not feeling pretty enough when she first moved to the United States from her native country. But Damian crushed all her worries and made her see her worth. When the couple landed in Mexico, their connection was palpable. But as episodes continued to air, the usually tranquil couple became a big part of the storyline when they began to have heated arguments. The most cringeworthy moment of their relationship was when Gigi told Damian that he was not the best sex of her life like he had been telling her. Damian later rejected her at the altar forcing Gigi to become the runaway bride as she tore down the aisle, shoes in hand.
During the Love Is Blind reunion, released on Netflix on Thursday, the couple is now back together. The couple decided to give it another go after talking through their differences. Both made clear the cameras only caught certain issues. Behind the cameras, they had more enjoyable moments and did connect with one another. Damian admitted that he “cracked” under pressure and did not want to feel locked down. But now fans are excited to know that the couple can give their relationship a real chance at survival. The couple laughed because while Gigi was found on Instagram, Damian was approached via his Tinder account saying one of the casting directors matched with him; both agreed they weren’t expecting to find someone they connected with.
The duo said everyone who is single is tired of swiping left or right and, in the end, just want to make a decent connection. While we may not have been able to relate to everything we saw from their relationship, fatigue with dating apps is something many single people can understand.
