The controversial new hard reboot/reset Ghostbusters movie is gearing up to hit theaters this July and while the film is polarizing one part of the Ghostbusters fan community, many others are excited to see a fresh take on the supernatural action-comedy.   The news has been starting to flow about the film, ever since the release of the first official trailer back in early March.

We got new posters of the four characters last December, which were more of a teaser.  Now, three new posters have been revealed that feature the three members of the cast that are Saturday Night Live alumni, along with a few of their quotes that fans heard in the film’s trailer.

These three dynamic action posters were posted by the official Ghostbusters Twitter account. The first poster revealed was Kristin Wiig as her  straight-laced and professional character, Erin Gilbert. The particle physicist of the group, Gilbert can be seen in the trailer getting covered in slime by a library ghost. The second poster features the sassy and brilliant nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzman, portrayed by Kate McKinnon. The final poster features a screaming Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) and her memorable “The Power of Patty compels you” quote from the trailer. The fourth person to eventually join the team, Patty is clearly a lot scarier than the ghosts they’re chasing.

These images are all careful to feature the film as very action oriented, much like some of the other recent photos that have been surfacing. In fact, director Paul Feig even asserted that the all-female team of Ghostbusters that he has assembled for the film were fully intended to be “badass”. The trailer didn’t let fans forget that the film still has its roots planted firmly in the grounds of comedy, a task that Feig and the seasoned comedic cast is more than qualified to handle.

The tradition of Saturday Night Live alumni gracing the cast of the franchise was first established by Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. Aykroyd was one of the original “not ready for primetime players” from 1975 to 1979. Murray arrived slightly later and was on the show from 1977 to 1980. Kristin Wiig had an epic run on the series from 2005 through 2014.  She graciously stayed on the series long after she had launched her own very lucrative film career with movies like Bridesmaids and Paul. The other two , Jones and McKinnon, are current cast members on SNL.  Kate McKinnon has gotten a lot of airtime this past year, thanks to her recurring and hilarious portrayal of Hillary Clinton each week.

The fans are about to get their chance to weigh-in on the film when it hits theaters in less than three months time.   The $150 million budget, all-star comedic cast and cameos from the original surviving three Ghostbusters (Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson) may just prove to be enough to pull off a summertime blockbuster, regardless of controversy and early critique.  Only time and the box office will tell for certain!
