After months of waiting, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns for season 4 at a brand new time set to bring about a darker tone for the series. One of the beneficiaries of this change has been the shows ability to bring in Ghost Rider as a result. Gabriel Luna will be playing the Robbie Reyes version of the character, who was introduced in the comics a few years back as the All-New Ghost Rider. He retains the flaming skull (something the show has already promoted), but has traded in a motorcycle for a muscle car instead.

The promotional campaign for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 has put plenty of the focus on Ghost Rider in an effort to gain more viewers. If the first couple of promos for the character were not enough, another one has hit the Internet - telling everyone to watch out for the new character.

Television Promos has the brand new promo featuring Ghost Rider and his car (see above). The promo is short and focuses mainly on Ghost Rider’s vehicle of choice. This continues to follow the trend of using the newest character on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as the focal point of the series’ season 4 promotional campaign.

The purpose of this promo is more so just to continue to tease the show bringing Ghost Rider into the fold instead of selling non-viewers on why they should be watching this season. The recognition that comes with the name certainly played a factor into the show bringing in Ghost Rider. The hope has been that he will be able to bring in new viewers and keep the show around past this season. It is unclear how well or effective Ghost Rider will be in doing this, but the numbers will certainly be something to keep an eye on over the course of the season.

After building up anticipation for his debut all summer long, it is now up to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to deliver on the concept it has presented. With the interest in his role sparking interest, the series must give viewers a proper Ghost Rider and not hold back from showing his flaming skull persona. Hopefully people will be just as interested in Robbie Reyes as a person, but new viewers are going to be tuning in to see Ghost Rider. If the show does not deliver a satisfactory version of the character, it could further push away viewers.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 4 premieres Tuesday, September 20 @10pm on ABC.
