Adapting hit anime and manga may be the next big wave in Hollywood. While live-action versions of Akira and Cowboy Bebop have milled around in development hell for years, American remakes of Death Note, Naruto, and Attack on Titan will all be hitting theaters in the coming years. Beating them all to the punch is the Scarlett Johansson-starring Ghost in the Shell, which will bring the story of Major to the big screen for the first time outside of animation in just a little over a month.

As we get closer, we’ve already seen an international trailer plus a new promo during last night’s Super Bowl. We’ve also been given a look at the art of the movie and a cool new poster. On top of all that, Funko has unveiled their line of Ghost in the Shell figures and the original animated Ghost in the Shell film is coming back in theaters, to celebrate the release of the live-action remake. All in all, it’s a great time for fans of the franchise, especially those who are excited for the new take on the world.

Thanks to the latest Total Film cover, we now have one more look at Johansson as the Major. The magazine also promises the film will be a “Next-Gen Matrix,” teasing the possibility that the movie could be a defining sci-fi movie. Whether that’s true or not, only time will tell, but you can check out the cover below ahead of the magazine’s release next month:

Ghost in the Shell is shaping up to be one groundbreaking movie. Though there’s been plenty of controversy surrounding the whitewashing of the cast, it remains one of our most anticipated films of the year. Given how many amazing looking movies are set to premiere in 2017, that’s certainly saying something. Its unique blend of action with breathtaking visuals looks to set the new film apart from even some of the most audcaious science fiction movies of the past. Hopefully, the gamble will pay off for the film.

That said, we’re also considering Ghost in the Shell one of the riskiest bets of the year. The same things that make the movie look so original may drive people away. Add in the controversy, and the film has a high potential to flop. Still, Johansson has proven time and again she’s a huge draw for movie audiences, especailly when it comes to action. When you mix in the franchise’s dedicated fan base, the movie could be a surprise hit. Either way, we’ll know soon enough when the film debuts at the end of next month.
