In commemoration of the year Pier 39 opened – 1978 – they’re opening up the main entrance plaza to an evening of fun and music. Pier 39 originally broke ground in the summer of 1977 and opened in October 1978. The pier originally had 50 stores, 23 restaurants, a diving pool (since replaced by the Venetian carousel) and street performers. Roughly a decade later, it was named the third most popular tourist attraction in the United States by USA Today.

If you don’t have skates, come anyway—rentals are free! This is also a child and artistic-adult friendly event. There will be a Craft & Design booth open from 5-8PM.

Pre-registration is full, but slots will be available based on actual event attendance. The organizers recommend arriving one hour prior to desired skate time. The event is free to attend.

// Friday at Pier 39 between 4 p.m. — 10 p.m., pier39.com
