Glass, the conclusion to M. Night Shyamalan’s surprise trilogy, opened to some brutal reviews. Google appears to be experimenting with new “Listen Now” ads in search results for streaming music services including its own Google Play Music and competitors like Apple’s Beats Music. The Wall Street Journal first noticed the ads and confirmed the new format with Google: Google also confirmed to The Wall Street Journal that the music services pay per click just like traditional ads it displays in search. Along with its own Google Play service and Apple’s Beats Music, the Listen Now section is also currently showing ads from Rhapsody and Spotify....

In February, the story broke that Google and other advertising companies were bypassing iOS Safari’s privacy settings and continuing to track users without their consent. Google quickly disabled its code responsible for the tracking after a story from The Wall Street Journal published, and Apple then claimed it was “working to put a stop” to the issue. Now, a new report from Mercury News claimed the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is considering whether to fine Google over the incident....

The mythical Google Music service could be on the verge of unveiling as the search monster is alleged to have begun testing the service internally. They call it dog fooding, a tell-tale sign that a product has reached the critical phase prior to release when employees are using it in everyday work to figure out the bugs and smooth out the rough edges. CNET broke the news quoting an unnamed music industry executive who reportedly said the product was nearly complete....

Google Lens began widely rolling out to Android in March and got a big update at I/O 2018 with real-time results and smart text selection. The visual search feature is now rolling out to the Google app for iOS. In March, Google Lens came to iOS via Google Photos. This new implementation in the Google app features a live viewfinder instead of requiring users to first snap a picture and add to the camera roll....

Following new features for Google’s other photo apps this morning, Motion Stills is getting a major update that allows you to add text that tracks an object in a video, super-resolution videos, and automatic cinemagraphs. Announced in June and since integrated with the Google Photos app, Motion Stills uses video stabilization technology to create easily shareable GIFs and movies from Live Photos. Motion Text is a neat feature that allows you to overlay text so that it follows any moving object in a video....

The announcement was made via a post on Google Plus, and there’s also an accompanying little video. From the photos on the Project Glass site, the device looks like a thin band that sits over the user’s eye and displays information automatically or by request. Functions are voice-activated and you can see the character in the video (well, you can’t really see him, as it all looks like it’s taken from behind said glasses), checking his e-mail, getting weather information, listening to music and setting reminders among other things....
